-April 26, 2010 ------
Before we moved to Brenham we lived and kept our horses close to the barn that Austin was stolen from. This is where they stay during Polo season. So we are familiar with the area there.
Kevin spent all day Saturday passing out flyers to every barn, feed store/sale barn, convenient store in the area. On Sunday when he went back to start again he was approached by a man that told him he could take him to the horse. When they got there, a man/boy was riding Austin in the yard. The man/boy told him that "Big E" from the apartments (low income housing) gave him the horse and that he was a Katrina evac. (That one's getting old).
Austin was really dehydrated and has rope burns on his hind pasterns, the Vet came out gave him copious amounts of fluid. Today he will come home and take a vacation for a while, just be a horse. I don't know if the horse was stolen by 'Big E" or if the teen did it or if the other person of interest was involved, that's for law enforcement to find out and it sounds like they will.
Yes, we will prosecute to the fullest .
The most amazing highlight of all of this, has been the kindness and motivation from fellow horsepeople that I've never met, from New Jersey, Connecticut all the way down to McAllen, TX we have received words of inspiration and help. So thanks to you all, you were all instrumental in finding this horse, you kept us going. I just want to mention too that Diane Holt from Horsetalk/ Bareback magazine here in Texas was a huge help, she used her contact database and sent out a flyer for us. Along with many others: Texas Horseman's Directory, Southwest Horse Trader, too many to count. You are all "Austin's Angels" now many many thanks, Alicia
